iText products are subject to the Mozilla Public License (MPL) and/or the Lesser GNU Public License (LGPL). Please check the product information to find out which of the licenses applies. Although the text for the MPL and/or LGPL is shipped with the software (both the binaries as well as the source code), the legalese sometimes makes it difficult for developers to understand the impact of these licenses. Hence the following FAQ entries:
- Can I use iText in a commercial/propriety/closed source application?
- How should I cite the iText copyright message in my program?
- How can I donate something?
- Is iText really free?
- Can I buy a License for iText?
- What is MPL / LGPL?
- Is support available?
Since these questions are in the FAQ, they aren't asked as frequently as they used to be ;-)
- When I compile/run the source code I get ClassNotFound/NoSuchMethod errors!
- Can I use iText to create a Reader Enabled PDF?
- Can I use iText to fill a Reader Enabled form?
- Why does getPageNumber() always return 0?
- Why do I get the exception 'PdfReader not opened with owner password'
Some people tell us they are 'iText newbies' and use this as an excuse to produce noise on the mailing lists. Please understand that 'being a newbie' isn't always accepted as an excuse! Some questions will be labelled [NEWBIE] indicating that asking the questions could have been avoided by reading the documentation that is freely available on this site.
This category provides a series of standard answers. If you are referred to one of these questions, you probably asked a question that has been answered over and over again.
Many people post questions on the mailing list asking for this or that iText functionality. In some (but not many) cases, the answer is: This isn't supported by iText (for instance: dynamic XFA). Most of the time however, the questions start from the wrong assumptions (for instance: there are still people thinking that PDF is a format suited for editing documents similar to Word).

- What measurement unit is used in PDF

Sometimes people use the mailing list to ask questions about Java in general. These questions are off-topic, but as they occur quite frequently, we provide some answers in this category:
